BBC viewers have blasted Wynne and Joanne: All At Sea, which was broadcast on Monday (27 January), featuring Wynne Evans and Joanna Page as they embarked on a journey around south Wales coastline.
The half-hour show came under fire after it emerged that Wynne had made a lewd comment to Janette Manrara during the Strictly Come Dancing live tour kick-off in Birmingham earlier in the month.
Frustration mounted among the BBC audience who objected to the network going ahead with airing the show, flooding social media with their dissatisfaction; some even vowed to shun any future broadcasts linked to Wynne in the future.
One viewer wrote on X: “Just a thought BBC, but maybe this Wynne Evans #AllAtSea prime time claptrap could have been postponed for a while?” Another added: “Wynne Evans…get him off my b****y telly.”
A third wrote: “What on earth are you doing showcasing Wynne Evans tonight? I will never watch anything with Evans involved. #BBC1 #WynneEvans.”
In response to the controversy on Monday, Wynne issued a public apology, saying: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.”
The controversy not only made headlines that day but also became a topic of discussion on the morning daytime TV circuit, including on ITV’s Lorraine, where the host weighed in on Wynne’s conduct with a cautionary note, reports Wales Online.
TV host Lorraine Kelly didn’t mince her words, telling a guest: “Do better, mate.” She then remarked: “The former opera singer has been in the headlines, though, after being overheard making a crude sexual remark towards It Takes Two presenter Janette during a photocall. I shan’t say what he said, suffice to say, it’s really not on.”
Representatives for the Strictly Live Tour and BBC Studios released a statement, saying: “We have made it very clear to Wynne that we do not tolerate such behaviour on the tour. We were not previously aware of the remark and did not receive any complaints.”
Last year saw Wynne hitting the dance floor on Strictly Come Dancing, competing alongside professional dancer Katya Jones, ultimately finishing in eighth place.
