A major fire onboard a flight has forced the evacuation of at least 170 passengers and cabin crew.

A blaze broke out on an Air Busan flight bound for Hong Kong. The South Korean airline was still on the ground at Gimhae International Airport in Busan, South Korea, on Tuesday night when the alarm was raised.

As the Mirror reports, there have not been any reported casualties, according to Korean media. Fire crews raced out to tackle the flames onboard the plane. It is still not known what caused the blaze. The plane was spotted engulfed in flames as emergency crews tried to hose down the burning fuselage.

The fire broke out at 10.30pm local time (1.30pm GMT) as the aircraft was preparing for take-off, with a total of 176 on board at the time. Korean media reports the flames were seen spreading towards the fuselage, with fire services currently at the scene.

The fire follows South Korea’s deadliest plane disaster in history after a Jeju Air flight from Bangkok to Muan crashed during landing on December 29, killing all but two of the 181 people on board. Flight 2216 was coming into land after taking off from the Thai capital when the disaster struck.

A preliminary investigation report published this week that duck feathers were found in both the aircraft’s engines.
