North Lanarkshire Council is encouraging residents to beat the winter blues by joining free health walks in the area.

There are several strolls held in towns and villages – and they all “go at a gentle pace”.

A council spokesperson told Lanarkshire Live: “The winter months can often feel like a struggle – but it needn’t be that way.

“Come and join the free health walks. They are a great way to beat the winter blues, catch some much-needed daylight and meet friendly folk whilst getting some gentle exercise done as well.

“Being outside in the fresh air and enjoying nature helps to boost your mood.

“The health walks are easy, last no longer than an hour and go at a gentle pace.

“Most groups go for a cuppa after the walk. Have a look online for walks that take place in your area; please book for your first walk.”

To “help people on their way with their New Year’s resolutions”, there will be a Big Wee Winter Stroll at Brownsburn Local Nature Park in Airdrie on February 15, setting off at 1.30pm from Gartlea Community Centre – booking is essential.
