Pupils at Castle Douglas High School are putting their best foot forward to help some of the town’s old folk.

The S5 health sector class is set to take part in a sponsored walk at Balcary Point near Auchencairn to raise money for The Golden Day Club.

They are also planning a healthy tuck shop in the school to boost funds.

A spokesman said: “We have chosen this charity as we know elderly people become very isolated when living at home. The money we raise would go towards musical equipment to fit the needs of elderly people in this club.

“Music brings joy and happiness to the older generation. The walk we have decided to do is Balcary Point, the walk is an hour and 45 minutes.

“We will also be painting stones with the centre to create a well-being walk on the trail for all to enjoy.”

The sponsored walk will take place on February 6.

And the healthy tuck shop – featuring baked goods and smoothies made thanks to the smoothie bike provided by Wheels of Fleet – will take place on February 7.
