MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) – An argument over noise led to the deadly shooting of a 1-year-old child, according to authorities.
Murfreesboro Police Department said Marquavious Hampton, 24, became angry over the child’s mother playing loud music. This led to an argument that escalated into a physical fight.
After the fight, Hampton allegedly shot the 1-year-old, who was sitting in a stroller, “multiple times.” The child’s mother was shot in the hand after jumping in front of the stroller trying to protect the child, according to authorities.
The baby was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken to the hospital.
Authorities used license plate reader cameras to find Hampton’s vehicle. Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies pursued Hampton, who allegedly fled. He was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Murfreesboro Police Department.
Detectives described the deadly shooting as a domestic violence incident.
“If you are in a domestic violence relationship or know someone who is, help is available,” the police department said.
