BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – On Jan. 28, the City of Bluefield honored a beloved local coach, teacher, and community member.

Buster Large was well-known throughout the Two Virginias for his longstanding career as an educator and as the Bluefield High School Boys’ Basketball coach.

Large sadly passed away on Jan. 11.

He was a championship level basketball coach who brought his team to the state championship five times, winning two. The City of Bluefield officially recognized Buster Large and his contribution to the community with a proclamation delivered by Mayor Ron Martin.

Some of Large’s family members were present at the meeting to witness the reading of the proclamation.
