A Scottish DJ and radio host has tragically died in Hong Kong aged just 22, her family have confirmed.
Niamh Jobson, who was based in Glasgow, passed away in Hong Kong on Friday, January 17. Her heartbroken loved ones expressed “insurmountable pain”, calling Niamh a “hugely gifted, talented, intuitive, wise, fiercely clever, funny, sparkly, stunningly beautiful legend of a girl”.
Niamh was born in Hong Kong but spent her younger years on the Isle of Eigg, a Scottish island populated by just 100 people. She later moved to Glasgow, where she took up work at the city’s famous nightclub Sub Club.
In a post on her Instagram page, her family said: “It is with the most insurmountable pain that we take this time and space to inform you all that our hugely gifted, talented, intuitive, wise, fiercely clever, funny, sparkly, stunningly beautiful legend of a girl, Niamh Jobson, died on Friday, 17th January 2025 in Hong Kong, a few short miles from where she was born.

“Today (22nd) is her 23rd birthday. Please, wherever you are in the world, whatever you are doing, join us in celebrating our much loved Queen today. We will be in touch in the coming weeks to inform you of further arrangements. Thank you and much love to you all. Rest in Glory our Queenie. We love you with all our might. Mumma, Dad, Finn & Betsy-Mae.”
After moving to Glasgow, Niamh became involved in the city’s dance music scene where she both produced and played music. She went on to play on radio and had a ‘Dub Series’ show with fellow DJ Kairogen as well as gigs on local station Radio Buena Vida.
Niamh worked closely with Sub Club over the years and performed at Slam’s famed ‘Return to Mono’ show, as well as the venue’s long-running club night Subculture.
Paying tribute, a Sub Club spokesperson said: “Inspirational, courageous, warm, talented, beautiful Niamh, our hearts are broken. In all our thoughts on your birthday and in our hearts eternally.”
Radio Buena Vida added: “We have been left heartbroken on hearing the tragic news. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends. Niamh was a truly wonderful and genuine person. A pleasure to have in our place and on our airwaves.”
While her cause of death was not confirmed, her family shared that funeral arrangements would be made in the coming weeks.
