Closures are expected to last much of the day, according to Georgetown police.

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Some Georgetown drivers may be met with road blocks Wednesday morning due to a gas leak.

The Georgetown Police Department said around 10:20 a.m. that a gas leak on University Avenue had caused responders to shut down the road between Austin Avenue and Church Street. Police said the closures are expected to last eight hours or more.

Around 10 minutes later, police said the Georgetown Fire Department had moved to close the entire intersection and further down to Forest Street.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area. Police will provide updates as more information becomes available.
