BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Performers with the Barter Theatre’s “Barter Players” are currently on tour, performing at venues within a four-hour radius of their home in Abingdon, Virginia.
Every spring and winter the group performs on tour, with this year showcasing skits like Frosty the Snowman and The Ugly Duckling—performances kids at the Wade Center got to enjoy recently.
But it’s not just about the performances; as performance manager Kailey Kyle tells us, it’s also about the connections the Barter Players have with the community.
She says, “I love theatre. I think there’s nothing like the adrenaline of a play and also one of Barter’s big mantras that I love is that theatre is in service to people and so I love being a part of shows at Barter because I think there’s a lot of heart there within the community and within the places and the stories that we get to tell.”
The Barter Players hope to spread joy and maybe even bring a smile to one’s face with one of their performances.
Kyle shares these final encouraging words for future theater performers.
She says, “I would also just say to any person who is any student, you know who is interested in going into theater, do it. We love to say that it only takes nerve and bravery and imagination, and anyone can do it from there.”
