A hospital patient was left fuming after being served chicken lasagna that resembled “vomit”.
Jess Tague, from Aberdeen, says she was served up the plate of watery meat during a stay at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on January 28.
She claims she requested the Italian pasta dish – which was allegedly served by NHS Grampian on Tuesday teatime. But the meal appears to be missing pasta, cheese, and other key ingredients of a traditional lasagna.
Jess took to social media to slam the hospital and blasted the hospital meal, adding it looked like leftovers of a dinner from a previous night.
Sharing a picture of her meal, she said: “This is what they’re calling chicken lasagne at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. It looks like the left overs from the other day’s chicken as it seems exactly the same.
“I think I’m going to go to the shop. I thought pasta would be the only thing they couldn’t screw up.”
A picture of the meal shows chunks of chicken in a pool of cream coloured sauce on a tray. It is notably void of any colour or vegetables.
Dozens of social media users expressed their shock at the quality of the dish with many labelling it disgraceful. The post received 180 likes.
Arra Jane Lindemann wrote: “Looks like vomit.”
Frances Christie said: “I was in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for over three months and had the chicken lasagna multiple times and it never looked like that. This is more like the chicken in sauce.”
Yates Codling remarked: “I’m no Nigella but even I know lasagne has pasta sheets.” Liam Hodgson stated: “That looks like something my dog threw up.”
“Just put me off my dinner,” Julia Morris said. James Paul Kevern said: “Who was sick?-Disgraceful meal!” While Laura Deakin added: “Oh Lord it looks like cat sick! Hope you were able to source something else.”
This isn’t the first time a Scottish healthboard has fallen short with standards regarding patient meals. Last year a woman claimed her poorly father was handed a measly meal of four roast potatoes and a slice of turkey during his stay at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.
The daughter known as Lara felt the meal was nothing short of a “disgrace” and took to social media to share the snap which had thousands of comments from shocked locals online.
One said: “Need to serve that at Holyrood before anything will happen, our politicians are totally oblivious to what is actually happening on the ground, how can that help to make someone well.” Another added: “That’s shocking, outsourcing was the biggest mistake ever, I hope your dad gets well soon.”
NHS Grampian has been approached for comment.
