New research has revealed the “most affordable” staycation spots in Scotland this Valentine’s Day. February 14 may still be a couple of weeks away, but now is the time to plan how you intend to spend the holiday with your other half.
While a dinner at a fancy restaurant is the classic Valentine’s activity, now is also the perfect opportunity to book a romantic staycation.
Experts at Moneyboat have created a comprehensive index revealing the most affordable cities for a romantic Valentine’s getaway, based on factors such as the number of budget romantic hotels and the number of affordable couples’ activities.
Coming in at number one on the UK-wide list is Edinburgh. According to Moneyboat, the Scottish capital is home to 941 budget-friendly hotels that have four stars or more and seven affordable spa destinations. The experts also found that Edinburgh features 352 romantic restaurants and 11 inexpensive romantic pubs, with 624 affordable couples’ activities in total.
Edinburgh is known for its historic cobbled streets and breathtaking views. Arthur’s Seat is a popular walking destination amongst couples, offering sweeping views out over the cityscape to enjoy with your partner.

Meanwhile, in second place on the list is Glasgow. According to the experts, Scotland’s largest city shines with 255 affordable four-star hotels, 320 reasonably priced restaurants, and 18 bars and pubs that are perfect for a romantic drink.
Glasgow was also found to have six wallet-friendly spa breaks to unwind with your partner. In total, the city includes 372 budget-friendly couple activities according to Moneyboat.
Famous for its cultural landmarks and buzzy nightlife, Glasgow is the perfect destination to head if you and your partner are looking for an exciting evening out on the town. Meanwhile, the Glasgow Botanic Gardens and Kelvingrove Art Gallery are two daytime destinations perfect for a romantic afternoon walk.

Elsewhere, Liverpool in England was named the third-most affordable Valentine’s Day staycation spot in the UK. Rounding out the top five are The Cotswolds and Leeds.
