Uddingston care home residents are ‘stepping up’ their fitness with a new initiative aimed at promoting physical and mental wellbeing.

Renaissance Care kicked off 2025 with its ‘Get Fit and Have Fun’ campaign, designed to keep people active and engaged through a series of fun and accessible exercises such as dance parties, step challenges and throwing competitions.

At Rosepark Care Home, residents have embraced a series of lively dance sessions that have brought everyone together. Throughout January, residents and staff took their fitness efforts outdoors, visiting Strathclyde Park to use side-by-side tandem bikes – a fun and inclusive way to get moving and enjoy the fresh air.

Isobel McQuade, 88, is a resident at Rosepark and said: “We loved getting out on the tandem bikes, it’s not something I’ve done before but it’s definitely something I would like to do again. We were able to experience Strathclyde Park like never before and it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon out.

“The activities have been great fun, there’s been a real sense of community as each week we’re challenged to do something different but the great thing is that people of all abilities are able to take part meaning we can all get involved and have fun.”

The ‘Get Fit and Have Fun’ campaign is just one of the many ways Renaissance Care promotes the physical and mental wellbeing of its residents. By offering personalised and fun activities, the campaign encourages everyone to stay active, improve their well-being, and maintain a sense of connection – no matter their age or fitness level.

Yvonne Richardson, operations director at Renaissance Care said: “The Get Fit and Have Fun’ campaign has been well received across all the Renaissance Care homes with residents literally jumping at the chance to take part.

“Physical activity is a real positive health booster for our residents and is something we encourage all year round. We know that regular physical activity has an incredibly positive impact on the mental wellbeing of residents as well as their physical form, so the campaign is benefitting people in a number of different ways.
