Staff and patients at Kilbryde Hospice have celebrated the 10th anniversary of Tony McGuinness Day Services.

A decade ago on January 30, 2015, its first patients were welcomed into the purpose-built hospice facility in East Kilbride.

This long-awaited moment was a triumph for the people of South Lanarkshire and beyond, whose tireless fundraising and generosity helped turn a vision into reality.

The hospice officially opened its doors in early 2015, fulfilling the dream of the late Tony McGuinness, whose determination and dedication played a pivotal role in bringing specialist palliative care to South Lanarkshire.

Tony, a respected businessman and community champion, was instrumental in raising over £2 million for the project but sadly passed away before witnessing the hospice come to life.

Since then, Kilbryde Hospice has provided vital day services, inpatient care, and community support for individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses.

Over the years its services have expanded, continuing Tony’s legacy of ensuring that no one in the South Lanarkshire community faces their journey alone.

“He would be incredibly proud to see how the hospice has grown and the impact it has had over the past 10 years.

“Today we celebrate not only his legacy but also the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and supporters who make Kilbryde Hospice the special place it is.”

The event featured a beautifully decorated blue cake, lovingly crafted by the hospice’s catering team, and was a true reflection of the warmth and care that define Kilbryde.

The day was made even more special with songs led by music therapist Anna Ludwig, heartfelt conversations, and a look back at the past decade of compassionate support.

To commemorate this occasion, the community was invited to reflect on the journey so far and continue supporting Kilbryde Hospice in the years to come.

Gordon McHugh added: “The need for palliative care and community support remains as vital as ever, and we thank everyone who has played a role in making this hospice a place of comfort and care.

“As we look ahead to the next decade, we remain committed to upholding the values that Tony McGuinness held dear – compassion, dignity, and community.”
