PINEVILLE, W.Va. – The Wyoming County judicial system has hit the ground running in 2025, already securing 11 felony convictions.

Prosecuting Attorney Gren Bishop said having a new permanent judge in more than a year is having an impact.

“We really wanted to hit the ground running in 2025,” Bishop said. “With newly elected Judge Josh Miller, our first permanent judge in over a year, I am confident we can thoroughly prosecute our felony cases without delay.”

Bishop said his office is focusing on repeat offenders as much of the crime is committed by a relatively small number of offenders.

“I have been involved in law enforcement for over thirty years and know criminal conduct is committed by a relatively small number of individuals who chronically offend,” he said. “Of course, crimes of violence and serious drug offenses will continue to be vigorously prosecuted, as more often than not, they are committed by a small number of persistent offenders.”

Bishop said law enforcement and the courts work closely together.

“I want the public to know that we are working every day, in conjunction with our partners in the criminal justice system, to keep Wyoming County safe and secure,” he said. “And I want would-be repeat offenders to know we will not falter in our relentless effort to target career criminals in Wyoming County.”

Felony convictions in January include: Jason Tolliver, sexual assault; Billy Joe Lester, fleeing in a vehicle with reckless indifference; Lashawna Beth Huff, attempting to commit a felony; Sidney Paul Allen, failure to register as a sex offender; Randy Lee Hurley, burglary; Judd Stephen Reed, attempting to commit a felony; Robert Hilling, Jr., burglary; Paul David Hill, being a felon in possession of a firearm; Carlton Musick, Jr., grand larceny and conspiracy to commit a felony; and Angel Hunt, attempt to commit a felony.
