Flood warnings have been issued for many areas.

RICHLANDS, Va. – With flood warnings issued for much of the WVVA viewing area, people on the roads are advised to travel carefully. The police chief of one community told WVVA about some of the areas people need to be watching for in their community.

Richlands Police Chief Ron Holt said there is severe flooding in areas including Fourth Street, East First Street, and Orange Street in Richlands.

Holt said there have been two boat assisted evacuations by emergency crews on Fourth Street, and Holt said the town is still seeing runoff and that they expect water to continue to rise over the next few hours.

While a mandatory evacuation has not been ordered, Holt is recommending that people who live in areas prone to flooding to leave their homes and get to higher ground. This includes places that have flooded in the past, Holt said.

If people choose to stay in these areas, Holt said for people to keep a close eye on the water levels.
