A small airplane appears to have crashed near a Philadelphia shopping mall early Friday evening.
The crash happened just after 6 p.m. near Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, according to ABC News affiliate WPVI. Multiple casualties were reported in the Northeast part of the city where the plane may have hit other buildings and vehicles.
Houses and cars were seen burning, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Roosevelt Mall was reportedly evacuated. Officials there have not returned a request for comment.
Video posted to social media shows an explosion where the mall is said to be located.
The Philadelphia Fire Department set up a staging area near the crash site and said on social media it would share more information when available.
Roughly 140 miles away in Washington, D.C., investigators are still trying to figure out what caused an American Airlines flight carrying 60 passengers to crash into a military helicopter Wednesday night. There were no survivors in that collision.
This is a developing story.
