A serial offender who choked his partner has been jailed for 21 months.
Craig Doak admitted assaulting the woman at a house in Carnoustie Crescent, East Kilbride, between November 1 and 30, 2023.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that on one occasion he put his arms around her throat and pressed her against a wall, restricting her breathing.
Doak, 51, also pulled the woman’s hair repeatedly, spat in her face repeatedly and threw her against a wall on more than one occasion.
The court heard the woman has since passed away, though there was no suggestion that this was as a result of the violence towards her.
Doak has a long criminal record that includes a two-and-a-half-year jail sentence in 2020 for slashing a man in East Kilbride.
The latest sentence was backdated to April 23 last year to reflect time spent in custody awaiting the case.
