A Bellshill mum has been jailed for 10 months after battering another woman with a bottle.
The victim suffered a wound to her forehead that has left a permanent scar, Hamilton Sheriff Court was told.
Stephanie Watson, 34, admitted assaulting Kirsty McKay in Burnside Avenue, Bellshill, on September 14 last year while the subject of three bail orders.
Sinead Corrigan, prosecuting, said Ms McKay and Deborah Young were walking a dog around 11pm when Watson emerged from her home and started shouting.
The fiscal stated: “She had a half bottle of wine in her hand and swung at Ms McKay, striking her on the forehead and causing a cut. Blood was pouring out.
“The bottle didn’t smash and the accused used it to hit Ms McKay another seven or eight times on the head and body.
“The victim was treated in hospital. She also had bruising to her back and ribs.”
Defence agent Tony Linden said there had been “issues” between his client and the victim’s daughter before the assault.
Mr Linden added: “My client, who has two young children, comes from a very challenging background. There have been mental health issues.”
Jailing Watson, Sheriff Mungo Bovey said: “You have previous convictions for offences involving knives and there was an element of premeditation about what happened here.
“The outcome would have been very different had you gone empty-handed to this confrontation.”
