During Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, host Susanna Reid took a moment from the regular programming to offer her congratulations to colleague Ed Balls for his recent success.
With guests Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire at the table, she interrupted the flow of headlines to announce, “Finally before we go. A huge congratulations to Ed Balls for winning these fantastic awards at the Political Podcast Awards 2025 interview of the year. The People’s Choice Award.”
Balls explained to viewers that their particular category was uniquely chosen by the public vote, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Susanna chimed in with a proud “A huge well done.”
Curiosity piqued, Andrew inquired about which specific interview earned Balls the accolade. Ed added: “Michael Gove on the Brexit referendum. We warbled on for about an hour and a half!”
He made sure to acknowledge his co-host George Osborne, as they both helm the Political Currency podcast together.
Kevin quipped in response to this disclosure: “People can listen and they can hate one of both! That’s the joy of it!” inciting laughter across the panel. However, Susanna swiftly rejoined the jovial banter with a stern: “No hate on this programme! “
The podcast’s celebratory spirits were earlier echoed online when they shared their gratitude through a video tweet where Ed and George expressed thanks to those who voted for them. The post was jubilantly captioned: “What a night! Double celebrations at the #PoliticalPodcastAwards. Thanks to everyone who voted for us.”
In the clip, Ed is seen clutching the trophy as he announces: “We’ve just won awards at the Political Podcast of the Year Awards. In fact, we didn’t just win one.”
As Ed takes a moment, his colleague George reveals a second award from behind. Ed goes on to say: “Two! Can you believe it. Not only interview of the year for Michael Gove but also the people’s choice.”
George chimes in with: “Thank you for voting for us! It’s been a while since we won an election.”
With a chuckle, Ed admits their surprise at the victory, adding: “I was not expecting it at all, so thank you very much.”
They conclude the video by encouraging fans to continue tuning into the podcast.
The response was swift, with one fan commenting: “Well done, you both deserved it.”and another posting: “Congratulations.”
