BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent was left in an awkward situation when she had to apologise on-air during the latest show after an unfortunate blunder that made viewers wince.
The 53 year old journalist was back on Monday teaming up with her co-presenter Jon Kay to bring the morning’s news to the nation.
In one segment, Sally and Jon, 55, conducted an emotional interview with former service members Bob Marshall and Angie Reid, discussing their experience in constructing a 30-foot model of a Viking longboat which is due to set sail.
Their project, which has taken several years, served as a therapeutic outlet to enhance their mental health.
But things went awry during the live video link chat when technical difficulties caused audio issues, resulting in Sally inadvertently talking over Bob as she attempted to ask Angie a question.
Immediately after the mishap, a remorseful Sally interjected with an apology: “I’m so sorry for interrupting you, Bob!” Yet her words were lost as Bob couldn’t hear her and pressed on with his train of thought, leading to an awkward pause that disrupted the interview’s rhythm.
Quick to react, viewers sensing the tension took to social media site X to express their cringe at the uneasy scenario, with one spectator commenting: “This interview is a bit excruciating.”
Reflecting on Bob’s response, another viewer commented: “Bob not keen on being interrupted,” reports the Express. A third quipped: “This item is going well.”
Meanwhile, an unenthused fan remarked: “I thought last week’s ‘sticks’ interview was s***. This is next level.”
Despite the initial hiccups, Bob ultimately had the opportunity to share his thoughts in the interview. He discussed the necessity for consistent assistance to maintain the project, stating: “We are just looking after those who want to join us, we can’t do everything, we’re massively underfunded.
“There is some support out there, the general public are pretty much in favour of our veterans but getting funding to do projects like this, it’s not so easy!”
