Dumfries and Galloway is set to be hit by a 16 hour deluge with as much as 60mm of rain possible. .

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the region, with heavy rain expected from Monday night until Tuesday afternoon.

Flooding and spray is expected to lead to longer journey times.

A Met Office forecaster said: “Persistent rain, heavy at times, will develop during Monday night and continue through Tuesday morning.

“Accumulations of 30mm are expected widely across the warning area with 40mm to 60mm falling over hills. Rain will clear from the west during Tuesday afternoon.”

The warning – which only covers Dumfries and Galloway – will come into effect at 9pm tonight and last until 1pm tomorrow.

People are advised to give themselves extra time for journeys, check if their property is at risk of flooding and even prepare for power cuts.
