(Gray News) – An image obtained by CNN shows the core values at the FBI Academy being painting over following President Donald Trump’s effort to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
The photo taken at the FBI’s training academy in Quantico, Virginia, shows a man painting over a mural that highlighted the agency’s core values including “diversity,” “fairness,” “compassion” and “integrity.
The FBI also told CNN that it has removed “diversity” from its list of core values instilled in all employees.
The agency said it was complying with new directive from the Trump administration.
Trump signed an executive order on his first day ordering a sweeping dismantling of the government’s DEI programs, which he has called “discrimination.”
According to the Associated Press, DEI laws and programs have been under attack for years by Republicans who contend that the measures threaten merit-based hiring, promotion and educational opportunities of white people, specifically white men.
DEI supporters say the programs are necessary to ensure that institutions meet the needs of increasingly diverse populations and the impact of the loss of these measures goes beyond people of color.
