Audiences were moved to tears during “The 1% Club“, as the climactic question led to a universal wipeout, leaving all remaining contestants out of the game.
However, armchair pundits were quick to tag it as the “easiest ever” question seen on the notoriously difficult quiz show.
The groundbreaking quiz returned on Saturday night (February 1) for its second episode of the new series, offering up a whopping prize fund that could reach £100,000.
Comedian Lee Mack is at the helm, inviting 100 hopefuls each week to take on increasingly tricky logic-based questions. According to the producers’ data, an astonishing 90 per cent of Britons should be able to handle the first question.
Nevertheless, the endgame question is designed such that just 1 per cent of people could figure it out. In the most recent showdown, only five contenders made it to this pivotal stage.
Faced with the choice of dividing £10,000 amongst themselves or risking it all on the final brain-twister for a chance at £96,000, Christopher was the sole contestant who prudently pocketed his £2,000 share, fearing he might lose it all.
The others gambled their stakes – and lost – with only one person daring to attempt the answer, which turned out incorrect, thus ending their chances of winning anything, reports Edinburgh Live.
The exclusive 1% question was: “The words below share a specific pattern. Why could VOTING also be part of the group? BANDLEADER NICKELODEON SILVERBACK.”
The secret was in the hiding metals; LEAD within BANDLEADER, NICKEL inside NICKELODEON, SILVER amidst SILVERBACK, and TIN nestled in VOTING. Viewers promptly took to social media expressing their opinions.
One user remarked: “That was the easiest 1% question I can remember. Thought it must be wrong as it couldn’t be that easy. Amazed not one of them had a clue.”
Another added their voice: “That seemed a pretty easy 1% Question to me? #The1PercentClub.”
This view was shared by more, with comments such as: “They’re a bit too easy so far tonight… #The1PercentClub” and “that last question was p*** easy. Can’t believe they didn’t see that. #The1PercentClub.”
Elsewhere, a fifth individual shared their irritation online: “Second week in a row that I’ve got the 1% question right! I thought tonight’s was particularly easy so I’m surprised that none of them got it #The1PercentClub.”
