The final of the Stewartry Cup was held on January 27 at the Ice Bowl in Dumfries.

The competition was played throughout January, with nine club rinks entered, and after some great curling New Abbey Curling Club and Kirkcudbright Country Curling Club were left to contest the final.

The final was a tight and tense affair with each team restricting the other to low scores and each shot being hard won. At the first end New Abbey took a small lead before Kirkcudbright levelled the scores, this pattern was repeated throughout the final until the seventh end.

In the seventh end, the pattern of scoring was broken when New Abbey managed to steal a shot, getting their noses in front, and in the eighth end they managed to score a single shot as Kirkcudbright chased the game, New Abbey running out 6-4 winners.

The President of Stewartry Curling, Gordon Farries, paid tribute to both teams for providing a great final and congratulated New Abbey on retaining the trophy. Organisers are grateful to this year’s Stewartry Cup sponsors, Asher Associates in Dumfries for their support which is invaluable in promoting curling in the Stewartry Province.
