South West Scotland Holstein Club triumphed with its “Fantasy 5” Winter Herds Competition for a second year.
With 29 entries, 12 of which new competitors and an increase on last year, it was a strongly contested competition, with farms from all over the region taking part.
The competition asked individual farms to put forward five animals, making their “Fantasy 5” team. The contest was judged by well known and respected cattle photographer Jane Steel, who in the course of three days visited all farms and judged the 145 animals. Although a Holstein club event, the competition was open to all dairy breeds, pedigree or non pedigree, thus making it a strong competition.
Taking home the top award for the night, Best Team was J & W Cowan of Meikle Killantrae, Newton Stewart. Best Heifer went to Logan Latenite Shania from Brian and Michael Yates, East Logan, Castle Douglas and winning the Best Cow and Best Udder award was John Forrest of Hurkledale Farn at Annan.
