Michelle Keegan revealed husband Mark Wright was brought to tears after watching her Netflix thriller, Fool Me Once. In a recent interview, where she also gave fans a rare glimpse of her baby bump and spoke about her exciting family news, Michelle shared how much Mark, 38, adored her performance.

She said the former The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE) star was so moved by her portrayal of Maya Burkett he ended up crying by the end of the series. “I was like, ‘What are you crying for?!'” Michelle laughed. “But he knew how nervous I’d been and was just so proud.”

In the gripping drama, Michelle plays a mother haunted by the belief her husband is dead—until she spots him alive on her nanny cam. Despite the show’s massive success, breaking Netflix records with over 37 million accounts streaming it in its first week, Michelle admitted she struggled with self-doubt after reading a single negative review when the first episode aired.

She turned off her phone for an entire day and avoided watching the show until Mark encouraged her, reports the Mirror. Her performance in Fool Me Once earned her a nomination for Drama Performance, while the series itself was nominated for New Drama at the 29th National Television Awards.

Despite these accolades and her previous success—having won 17 awards during her Coronation Street days, including Best Newcomer at the British Soap Awards — Michelle confessed her reaction to criticism shows her down-to-earth nature. Speaking to Grazia, she explained: “I couldn’t watch it. I saw one review that wasn’t very nice, and I just turned my phone off.”

When asked if she really avoided her phone for the entire day, Michelle replied, “Yeah, head in the sand. That’s how I handle life.” This modest approach has been a hallmark of her career, even as she’s gone on to receive multiple awards and acclaim.

On her nearly decade-long marriage to Mark, Michelle described their relationship as “boring and basic” but she insists that’s what keeps them strong.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2015 after dating for two-and-a-half years, credit their longevity to being “best friends.” Mark, now a radio host and entertainment reporter, shares Michelle’s grounded approach to fame.

“Mark and I feel lucky to work in this industry, but it doesn’t dominate our lives,” Michelle said. “We dip our toe in, then step back to normal life. It’s very boring and probably quite basic, but that’s how I like it.”
