Nate Anthony from Bored of Lunch has unveiled an incredibly easy lunch option that fuses two culinary pleasures: toasties and pizza.
His variation on a pizza toastie, crammed with cheese, pepperoni, and Italian herbs, was revealed in a TikTok video last week.
So irresistible is the recipe that Nate posited if you haven’t sampled one, “you’re probably missing out”. For those already familiar with pizza bagels, this concept is not too far off.
Nate introduced his creation saying: “If you’ve not had a pizza toastie then you’re probably missing out, so easy to make. I usually make pizza bagels but this is a nice change.”
Those with air fryers are in for a treat; Nate’s recipe is ideally suited for these devices and can be whipped up in just seven minutes. He said: “In my opinion, an air fryer pizza toastie is one of the most elite things you can have at lunch, they’re so easy.”
Don’t fancy pepperoni? The recipe is versatile just switch to your preferred vegetables or other non-meat options.
The video gained huge traction online, viewed more than two million times with 57,700 likes and numerous comments. Nate’s been lauded, while others offered suggestions on his dish.
Dallas chimed in: “I make mini pizzas with was naan bread they are bomb. I don’t like buns or bread cause the sauce soaks into them too much so you have to use quite a lot but not as much with naan.”
Another person noted, “This is getting made tomorrow,” and Fran contributed with, “I make these all the time!”
So, if you’re on the hunt for a quick and simple lunchtime treat for yourself or the kids, here’s what you’ll need.
Air fryer pizza toastie
Ingredients
- 2 slices of bread
- Cheddar or mozzarella
- Pepperoni
- Few tbsp pizza sauce or passata
- 1 tbsp tomato purée
- 1/2 tsp garlic optional
- 1 tsp Italian dry herbs
Method
Mix the pizza sauce, garlic and herbs spread over the bread. Top with the cheese and pepperoni.
To stop the pepperoni blowing off use cocktail sticks to keep them in place.
Cook in the air fryer for around seven minutes or so at 180℃. Serve and enjoy!
