BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent offered viewers a glimpse into her past during Tuesday’s programme. The 53-year-old presenter was chatting with sports correspondent John Watson when she humorously revealed a tidbit from her younger days.

The conversation turned personal after John discussed tennis star Emma Raducanu playing without a coach at the Abu Dhabi Open, noting: “It’s the second competition since parting ways with her coach, who opted to step down.”

When co-host Jon Kay jokingly suggested Sally could be a potential coach, she quipped: “No! Can you imagine me?! I’d be the worst. My mum was a tennis coach and she completely gave up on me. I was a disaster!”

Jon couldn’t help but laugh at Sally’s candid admission, responding: “I don’t believe it for a minute.”

In another segment of the show, Jon and Sally expressed their excitement about Cyndi Lauper’s upcoming appearance on the red sofa. They even teased weather presenter Carol Kirkwood to show off her vocal skills, with Sally urging: “Come on, Carol, give us a tune!”

Carol, laughing off the challenge, retorted: “On your bike Sal! No chance of that.” Despite promising to save the audience ‘from that misery’, it appeared that Sally and Jon may have been too distracted to pay attention to Carol’s weather update, reports the Express.

Returning to the studio, Jon and Sally appeared slightly taken aback as Jon admitted: “I didn’t hear a word of that because we were gossiping.”

Carol couldn’t help but chuckle at his honesty, while Sally jumped in to clarify their preoccupation. She explained to her colleague: “There’s a reason! I’m really sorry, I’ve just been talking over Jon the entire time. We’ve been chatting because Cyndi Lauper is here!”

As they began their interview with the pop legend, Cyndi confessed she’d been awake since 1am, after struggling to sleep sleeplessness.

The anticipation for Cyndi’s appearance wasn’t confined to just Jon and Sally as viewers rapidly expressed their enthusiasm on Twitter.
