Prince William and Kate Middleton are officially the most influential royal couple in the UK according to new research.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, who famously met at the University of St Andrew’s in Scotland, bring in 735,000 Google searches in the UK every month and generate 2.8m hashtags on Instagram, equating to a combined couple of 3.54m Google searches and Instagram hashtags.

These figures gathered by dating reviews platform Dating Scout, make them higher than any other royal couple on the list after using Google search analytics tool, Ahrefs and Instagram to discover which members of the monarchy was being searched the most online.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been ranked as the second most influential royal couple in Britain, pulling in around 507,000 UK Google searches a month and around 2.5m Instagram hashtags, making a combined total of 30.1m Google searches and Instagram hashtags.

King Charles and the late Princess Diana have been revealed as the third most influential royal couple in the UK. The then Prince Charles married the former Princess of Wales, Lady Diana Spencer, in 1981 which was widely considered as the wedding of the century.

Together, Charles and Diana pull in a monthly 2.58m UK Google searches and Instagram hashtag with the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip following close behind at a combined total of 2.23m Google searches and Instagram hashtags.

After this, King Charles and Queen Camilla have been ranked in fifth place with the pair tying the knot in 2005. Together, they make up a combined total of 1.54m Google searches and Instagram hashtags.

The other five couples who made the top ten list include the late Queen’s parents, King George VI and Elizabeth Bowes Lyon, who was better known as the Queen Mother, as well as Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and Princess Anne and her husband Timothy Laurence.

In ninth place was the late Princess Margaret and her lover Peter Townsend. Meanwhile, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh secured the tenth spot.

Chris Pleines, dating expert and founder of Datingscout.co.uk said: “Royal couples, from modern icons such as Kate Middleton and Prince William, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, to famous and more historic figures such as King George and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, inspire and fascinate us in equal measure.

“The Google search and social media data back this up. It is interesting to see which royal power couple inspires the most interest and influence online, and it does appear that Kate Middleton and Prince William continue to lead the charge”.
