A flight attendant has shared a parking rule she always follows when leaving her motor at the airport.

Cierra Mistt said many make the mistake of leaving their vehicles closer to the terminal. While this can be more convenient, she recommends parking your car elsewhere.

In a viral video, she said: “Here’s some secrets all flight attendants and pilots use when travelling – and now you can too. When it comes to parking and you want to make sure your vehicle is safe at the airport, park on either the top floor parking garage or very back of economy parking.

“At this point, you might be thinking, ‘Why would I do that? It’s the furthest away and not guarded at all’. However, she shared a reason why this isn’t the case.

“This is actually the parking where all of the employees of the airport along with the crew members that are going to be on trips park. Security is constantly monitoring that area to make sure nobody breaks into those cars and the shuttles are over there more than any other place because they need to make sure their employees get to work on time.”

Even though some didn’t buy Cierra’s advice, others said they’d be following it on their next holiday. One user commented: “I live in Colorado, we have big hail. I’d never leave my car unsheltered! But good tips otherwise.”

Another said: “My truck doesn’t fit in the parking garage.” A third remarked: “Perfect since I’m going somewhere on Thursday.” And a fourth added: “Well that’s good to know.”

More ways to keep your car safe in an airport car park

  • Opt for official airport parking lots or parking facilities with good reputations. These often have better security measures like surveillance cameras, patrols, and gated access.
  • Never leave valuables in your car, such as bags, electronics, or loose change. Thieves may break in if they see anything valuable.
  • Ensure all doors, windows, and the trunk are locked securely. If you have a sunroof, make sure it is completely closed.
  • Use a steering wheel lock or pedal lock to make your car less appealing to thieves. As well as this, you should consider a GPS tracker for your vehicle so it’s easier to locate if stolen.
  • Take pictures of your car (including license plate) before leaving it, in case you need to report damages or locate it later.
