Irvine Meadow boss Jamie McKim has called on his side to keep the positive momentum going as they eye up a fourth successive win.

Kyan Gunn came off the bench to fire home a debut double on Friday night against Thorniewood United to ensure it was three wins from three under the new gaffer.

That result saw them climb out of the relegation zone, albeit on goals scored ahead of Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

But with victories and clean sheets in successive weeks against West of Scotland First Division promotion hopefuls in Renfrew and Thorniewood, McKim is keen to keep the positive run going. They host Maybole on Saturday with kick-off being 2pm at Meadow Park.

Speaking to the Herald, McKim said: “I’m delighted. The game wasn’t a great spectacle and we weren’t outstanding, but what we were was resolute, great defensively and hard working and ultimately we got rewarded with three points and a clean sheet.

“The situation that we’re in at the moment, it’s not about being pretty. It’s about winning and we’ve been doing that.”

He added: “It’s about building momentum. Get points on the board and then get out of the situation we’re in. That’s the aim for this football club.

“You can see that the players are working for each other and they’re committed to the group. There’s a really good spirit about the players and the club and we’re going in the right direction.

“Being able to get results like we have the last couple of weeks, that gives you confidence that you can go and compete against any team in the league.

“We lost focus a wee bit in the first half against Thorniewood and I told the players that it’s about keeping calm and not getting frustrated.”

United could have taken the lead in the first half when veteran winger Bobby Barr clattered the woodwork and there was an element of luck to Medda’s opener with Gunn’s cross finding the top corner on 70 minutes.

But the goal signalled a huge shift in the contest with the away side on the front foot before Gunn doubled his tally seven minutes later.

McKim added: “We talk about getting balls into the box and challenging the keeper and we’ve got a goal from it.

“I think we were starting to grow into the game at that point without creating clear cut chances but when the first goal went in, you could see the shift in confidence and momentum for the boys and they made it count by getting that second goal and seeing the game out.”
