School inspectors have praised St Bernadette’s Primary School in North Motherwell for its strong leadership, teaching practices, and nurturing environment.

The inspection, which took place in December 2024, involved discussions with parents, carers, and children and close collaboration with the headteacher and staff.

Inspectors evaluated four key areas of the school’s work and rated them as “very good” in leadership of change, learning and teaching, wellbeing and inclusion, and raising attainment and achievement.

“I am delighted that everyone connected with St Bernadette’s can celebrate such a positive report from the Inspectors,” said Christine Boyle, headteacher of St Bernadette’s Primary.

“We are very proud that the report highlights the dedication and commitment of all staff in creating a welcoming and nurturing environment where all children can flourish both academically and emotionally.

“Inspectors have commended our children as articulate, compassionate, and enthusiastic learners, and they recognised that our staff are driven by their high aspirations for all children.

“The report is a very welcome recognition of the valuable contribution of the leaders, teaching staff, support staff, children, families and partners to the ongoing successes and achievements of St Bernadette’s Primary School.

“I would like to thank everyone for their continued support, which has led to very good learning experiences for all.”

Education Scotland’s inspection found a strong sense of school community commitment to continuous improvement and high aspirations for all pupils.

The report commended the strong leadership provided by the headteacher and principal teacher, who have created a culture of continuous improvement.

Teachers were praised for working collaboratively to enhance learning experiences, ensuring children remain engaged, motivated, and eager to learn.

Pupils were described as articulate, compassionate, and enthusiastic, fostering a respectful and inclusive school environment.

Staff were recognised for their work with partners to support children’s wellbeing, creating a calm and caring atmosphere where pupils thrive.

The inspection also highlighted the school’s effective approach to identifying and supporting children who need additional help, ensuring every child achieves their full potential.

“It reflects the commitment of the headteacher, staff, pupils, and parents to creating a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment, and I would like to congratulate them on their achievements.”
