A new list of Scotland’s “10 best places to visit” in February has been revealed.
Now that winter is coming to an end, more and more Scots are dusting off the cobwebs and spending days out in the countryside. Between romantic Valentine’s Day walks and the days getting longer and longer, February is a great time to get out and explore Scotland.
Earlier this week, UK Hidden Gems shared a list of the top 10 places around Scotland to visit this month. According to the website, it is the “ultimate guide to the breathtaking but less-travelled paths and secret spots of the United Kingdom”.
Coming in at number one on the list is Culzean Castle and Country Park in Ayrshire. Set across 260 hectares, the sprawling estate is home to 40 buildings and secret follies.
Described by the experts as a “breathtaking hidden gem”, Culzean Castle and Country Park features woods, beaches, parkland, and more. Meanwhile, Culzean Castle is situated in a dramatic position atop a cliff overlooking the Firth of Clyde.
Meanwhile, the second-best place in Scotland to visit this February according to UK Hidden Gems is Loch Glencoul in Assynt. Praised by the experts for “feeling completely untouched by time”, it is the ideal spot for a peaceful and picturesque hike.
Among the most beautiful lochs in Scotland, Loch Glencoul is a haven for nature and wildlife. However, it takes around half a day to reach on foot due to its remote location so make sure you are well prepared before heading off.
Elsewhere, UK Hidden Gems also singled out the East Neuk of Fife as another top destination in Scotland worth visiting this February. The name given to a picturesque area of the Fife coast, the East Neuk is known for its many quaint fishing villages and towns.
Some of the most scenic destinations in the region include the settlements of Crail, Pittenweem, and Anstruther. All are known for both their spectacular views out over the water and mouthwatering fresh fish and chips.
Other locations featured on UK Hidden Gems’ list include Plockton in the Scottish Highlands and the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye. The former was described as a “beautiful hidden gem”, while the Fairy Pools were singled out for their “crystal-clear blue waters”.
UK Hidden Gems wrote: “Scotland in February is a magical place, with crisp winter landscapes, cosy escapes, and fewer crowds at some of its most breathtaking locations. Whether you’re looking for snow-covered mountains, historic castles, or vibrant cities, there’s something special to discover.
