New signing Scott Robinson says his Championship experience can help Hamilton Accies dig in and get vital results in their relegation dogfight.
The midfielder joined the club on deadline day, with Accies skipper Scott Martin heading in the opposite direction, and the 32-year-old arrives aiming to help haul Hamilton away from the relegation play-off spot in the division.
Robinson has won the division twice before with Hearts and Kilmarnock and hopes his older head can help John Rankin’s side out of trouble, following a run of four straight league defeats.
He said: “That experience can only be a benefit to me. If I can pass that on to any of the younger boys in the squad, I will. I will do my best to help out on and off the park.
“I spoke to the gaffer about that on the phone as well. I know what it takes to win games.
“It is not an easy division. Sometimes you need to dig in during the second half in games and just make sure you get those three points. I’m delighted to be here and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.
“I knew quite a lot of the squad already, which always helps, but everyone has made me feel welcome and I’ve had a really good first day. The gaffer came across really well and it made it clear how keen he was to get me on board.
“We are in a bit of a tricky situation right now, the club needs to pick up points, and I am here to help the cause.”
Accies fans will have to wait a little while longer to see the new signing in action, with Robinson cup tied for Saturday’s Scottish Cup fifth round trip to Perth to play St Johnstone.
He added: “I would love to be involved straight away, but it is not to be. It just gives me more time to bed in here, get more fitness and look forward to the Queen’s Park game away [on February 15].”
