Ayr United boss Scott Brown has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant manager role at Motherwell.

The former Celtic skipper was among the bookies’ early frontrunners to take the reins from Stuart Ketllewell, following his shock resignation last week over the toll abuse from fans was taking on him and his family.

Motherwell are not in Scottish Cup fifth round action this weekend after being knocked out by St Johnstone in the previous round and that will give the club time to contemplate who will follow in Kettlewell’s footsteps.

However, it won’t be Brown – currently top of the Championship with the Honest Men – after he revealed he has no interest in the position.

Ahead of Ayr’s Scottish Cup tie with his old club Hibs, Brown said: “My main concentration is on Ayr, I am really enjoying it here at this moment in time and looking forward to the game on Friday.

“Motherwell is a great club and I’m sure somebody will go and get that job, but it’s not going to be me.”
