A unique job opportunity has become available in the Scottish Highlands, with accommodation provided.
At the moment, the Glen Nevis Youth Hostel is looking to hire four Hostel Assistants. The full-time jobs pay £11.85 per hour, and will involve 37.50 hours of work per week.
The Glen Nevis Youth Hostel is a five-star and VisitScotland-accredited youth hostel situated near the town of Fort William, which is known as ‘the gateway to Ben Nevis’. The hostel features hotel-like accommodation with private en-suite rooms.
Among the responsibilities of the Hostel Assistants will be undertaking a range of hostel duties such as reception service, checking guests in and out, and handling customer enquiries. You will also be required to carry out cleaning, housekeeping, and basic catering duties.
As well as having accommodation provided, benefits of the positions include an ‘Employee Assistance Programme’ and holiday days. The successful applicants will also given a membership to Hostelling Scotland, meaning they “can enjoy the wonderful locations of our hostels and experience the great service that our guests receive when it is your time away from work”.
When you are not working, there is plenty you can get up to in the local area. In addition to the world-famous Ben Nevis being on the hostel’s doorstep, other nearby beauty spots include the ‘Braveheart Village’, where filming for the iconic 1995 movie Braveheart took place, and the ancient Dun Deardail Fort.
According to the job listing, those applying for the jobs must be adaptable, as “workloads and priorities can change during the busy periods”. Applicants should also be strong communicators who are able to work well as part of a team.
Other requirements include one reference and a recent Basic Disclosure clearance. You must also provide evidence of a right to work in the UK.
The job listing states: “Do you enjoy outdoor activities and exploring your surroundings in your spare time? From cities to islands, beaches to hills or mountains and all points in between, our youth hostels provide the perfect base for field trips, activity breaks or cultural tours.
“Hostelling is open to all. We are a non-profit charity and we take our responsibilities seriously, helping guests of all ages and backgrounds to discover and experience all that is Scotland.”
To apply for the jobs, you must submit an application through the Hostelling Scotland website. The closing date for the positions is February 28.
