Cyriel Dessers’ agent claims the striker had TEN offers to leave Rangers and has revealed why the big striker remained at Ibrox.

After losing his starting spot to Hamza Igamane, Dessers appeared to be third choice in the pecking order of strikers under Philippe Clement and looked like a prime candidate to head for the exit during the January transfer window. However, a combination of an injury to Brazilian Danilo and Dessers finding form saw his return to the starting XI. A sensational goal off the bench against Manchester United was the highlight, and the Nigerian then sealed a vital win away at Dundee United the following weekend.

Now representative Stijn Franics has claimed that up to 10 clubs were keen to sign Dessers. He has been linked with moves to MLS and Serie A in recent weeks, with Cagliari understood to be keen to take him back to Italy. However, Francis admitted that most were keen on a loan deal, with Rangers only interested in a permanent transfer if any deal was to happen.

He told voetbalniuews: “There is still a lot of probing, but clubs are pushing much less. Look at Cyriel Dessers: he had 10 offers, but the market is much more difficult at that time. Many wanted to rent him, but Rangers only wanted to sell. And that is not ideal for the player’s focus.”

The door remains open for a summer move, however. Clement and sporting director Nils Koppen are determined to continue reshaping the squad, and they reduced the wage bill significantly with a number of January departures.

Dessers will be among the higher earners still at the club. And if Gers can bank a decent fee while freeing up more room in the budget, then offers will likely be considered when the window reopens in June.
