Councillors have agreed in principle to 16 new projects recommended by community groups in North Lanarkshire.

The projects have now been added to North Lanarkshire Council’s Community Board Local Development Programme, which means they can potentially be completed in future financial years depending on budget and public support.

Proposals in the Airdrie Community Board area are a welcome sign for the village of Calderbank, surfacing at the Chapelhall/Bellside Road car park, and a wheeled sports area in Caldercruix.

Another proposal was for increased parking provision for Ella Gardens in Mossend, which is part of the Bellshill community board area.

The projects in the Coatbridge area are a refurbishment of Greenend Play Area, an additional swing bay at Whifflet Park, upgrades to Whifflet Park and Bargeddie play areas, marking of parking bays in Wilson Street, a partnership project with Friends of Dunbeth Park, and a multi use games area in Bargeddie Park.

There are also plans to install hoardings with historical information for visitors to Main Street in Cumbernauld Village.

A project in the Motherwell area would see a living Christmas tree erected beside Craigneuk War Memorial.

In the Northern Corridor, there are proposals to improve Strathkelvin Railway Path in Moodiesburn by scraping back shrubs and bushes.

A new multi use games area is proposed for Newmains in the Wishaw area, as well as overhauls of play areas at Waverley Drive and Cambusnethan Memorial Park.
