A former Newcastle United and Wolves hero is amongst the candidates for the Motherwell manager’s job.
Temur Ketsbaia is believed to have applied for the post vacated by Stuart Kettlewell last week, while bookies have Steven Naismith, former Australia gaffer Graham Arnold and ex-Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe amongst their favourites.
Ex-Celtic captain Scott Brown has distanced himself from the job, to concentrate on steering Ayr United to promotion from the Championship.
Ketsbaia is a colourful character who managed AEK Athens and Anorthosis, and as a player starred at Newcastle United from 1997 to 2000, before moving to Wolves and Dundee, before ending his career at Anorthosis.
Glasgow World reports that Ketsbaia has sent his CV to Fir Park for consideration, but the club are remaining tight-lipped over who they want to replace Kettlewell.
Ketsbaia has some pedigree as a boss, having won two championships and a cup at Anorthosis, steering them to the Champions League third round, and they became the first Cypriot club to reach the competition’s group stages in 2008/09.
He was most recently boss of Cyprus, which he left in September 2024.
Motherwell were taken by assistant boss Stephen Frail at the weekend for the 3-1 defeat at home to Celtic, and he says he will continue as long as needed.
But with the club not playing again until they host Ross County on February 15, they have a bit of time to deliberate on who will take them forward.
