A 90-year-old woman was killed Wednesday on the Upper East Side after being struck by the driver of a yellow cab, and then run over by another driver, police said.
The elderly woman was crossing York Ave. mid-block near E. 72nd St. just after 5:40 p.m. when she was first hit by the cab driver, cops and witnesses said.
As she lay injured in the roadway, a second driver, behind the wheel of a gray Chevrolet Trailblazer ACTIV, ran her over, partially pinning her beneath the small SUV, according to a man who witnessed the horrifying crash.
“It didn’t help that she was crossing in the middle of the block,” said a man who works in the neighborhood. “It’s so tragic.”
Medics rushed the woman to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell, but she could not be saved. Her name was not released as police worked to notify her family.
Both drivers remained at the scene and faced no immediate charges.
