An out-of-control Frontier Airlines passenger punched an airplane window so hard that it cracked before he was hogtied by other passengers.
The unidentified man was on board Frontier Flight 4856 on Tuesday night from Denver to Houston, according to Houston Fox affiliate KRIV. The plane landed safely and on time at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
Cops said chaos erupted about 20 minutes into the flight when the man began punching the seat in front of him and the plane window, KRIV reported. The man hit the window with such force that the plexiglass covering broke off and the window itself cracked, but the plane did not lose pressure.
As the violent outburst continued, other passengers responded and subdued the man, according to Houston ABC affiliate KTRK. Flight attendants had asked if there were any law enforcement personnel on board.
“He was very physical. I picked him up and put him on the ground. It took a couple of guys to get his arms behind him and secured,” passenger and Army veteran Tanner Phillips told the station. “We put hands on him and were able to secure him. Someone had zip ties, and someone else took their bootlace off and helped us out.”
After the man was restrained, he calmed down and was placed back in his seat for the rest of the flight, KRIV reported. Frontier Airlines declined to press any charges against him.
