Darts fans were delighted to hear the voice of Wayne Mardle again as they savoured the Luke Littler against Michael van Gerwen cracker.

The iconic former player, who is the charismatic face and voice of Sky Sports’ coverage, had been absent since the tragic death of his wife Donna. Mardle was not in place for the coverage of the Paddy Power World Championship at the Ally Pally with colleagues from the TV channel, PDC staff, fans and players offering heartfelt condolences.

But, after an absence from the sport, he was back in commentary position for the match between The Nuke and the Green Machine. Mardle is normally the man on the stage with sidekick and main anchor Emma Paton at the beginning of the Sky show, but that task was taken by commentator Dan Dawson and ex-World champ Mark Webster. However, fans were then warmed as, without prior warning and no prior mentions, Mardle was announced as being the co-comms alongside his regular sidekick Rod Studd for the rematch of the World Championship Final.

The pair have called some of the most iconic moments in the sport since the inception of the PDC and viewers are glad to see him back.
