With Valentine’s Day just over a week away, many Scots will be looking to indulge in some romantic activities. Perhaps you have planned a candlelit dinner at one of Scotland’s award-winning restaurants.

Or maybe you are heading for an intimate getaway in a Highlands lodge surrounded by majestic mountains and serene lochs. However, if you are looking for something a bit different, there is a quaint village on the stunning east coast that is arguably among the most romantic spots in Scotland.

Nestled in the Borders, St Abbs sits atop dramatic cliffs overlooking the North Sea. As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, this secluded fishing village has captivated millions of film and music enthusiasts worldwide.

It is famously ‘twinned with Asgard’, after serving as the filming location for New Asgard in the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame. That same year, pop sensation Harry Styles filmed the music video for his hit single Adore You in the village.

St Abbs was portrayed as the mystical Eroda, where all but one resident is cursed never to smile. St Abbs is more than just a cinematic backdrop, though. With its charming fishing cottages cascading down to the sea and the crystal-clear waters surrounding its harbour, it’s a must-visit destination even without its Hollywood links.

Just a stone’s throw from St Abbs is Coldingham Bay—a stunning sandy beach that is a hit with surfers—while the rugged rocks near the village form part of the St Abb’s Head National Nature Reserve. Some cliffs tower 300 feet above the sea, offering unbeatable views of the Berwickshire coast stretching down to England.

Another draw is the area’s breathtaking sunsets, which VisitScotland ranks among the top 15 in Scotland. The tourism board described them as a “blend of natural beauty and wildlife that captivates nature lovers and adventure seekers alike”.

VisitScotland added: “This coastal paradise, with its sheer cliffs, deep gullies, and towering offshore stacks, provides an impressive backdrop as the sun sinks below. The landscape, shaped by the relentless force of the sea, is particularly stunning in the soft golden light of the late afternoon, when the colours of the cliffs and sky seem to melt together.”

What could be a more romantic spot to propose to your beloved this February 14?
