Plans to build eight holiday cottages at a farm on the outskirts of Bridge of Weir have been submitted to Renfrewshire Council for consideration.

Manor Architects, the agent company for applicant Douglas Lyle, has lodged a bid for planning permission for the proposal at Scart Farm in Kilmacolm Road.

If given the green light, the project will see an expansion of the business’ tourism offer through a self-catered accommodation development.

A planning statement explained: “Scart Farm, with a legacy of over 350 years in agriculture, has developed and diversified into the tourism sector over the last 10 years to offer a range of services and activities to generate income which complements and supports the main farming operations.

“Working in tandem with the main farm business, there is a ‘doggy day care’ facility and ‘experience day’ activities where members of the public can engage in off-road quad biking and tank driving.

“In addition, there is a coffee kiosk (Bean Aboot) and an events space in an existing barn which accommodates business and corporate team building events days including hen and stag parties.

“Recognising the increasing value of agri-tourism, the farm has introduced a variety of additional activities designed to attract visitors such as farm tours, educational workshops and seasonal events.

“These activities not only provide an additional revenue stream but also serve to educate the public about sustainable farming practices and the importance of carbon offsets which the applicant seeks to achieve.

“As the popularity of Scart Farm’s tourism offerings has grown, the applicant has recognised the opportunity to further support and expand the businesses’ offer through a small-scale, self-catering holiday accommodation development as proposed.”

The cottages would be accessed via a new priority junction with Kilmacolm Road to the west of the farm access. A decision will be made on the application at a later date.
