KENNER, La. (WVUE/Gray News) – A woman in New Orleans is accused of using a stolen credit card that belongs to a Kansas City sports reporter who was found dead.
Telemundo KC announced on Thursday that Adan Manzano, 27, an anchor and reporter on assignment to cover Super Bowl LIX, died.
The station’s general manager, Steve Downing, said Manzano was found dead in his hotel room.
According to investigators, security footage shows Danette Colbert, of Slidell, with Manzano on the morning of Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Investigators said she can be seen on video leaving Manzano’s hotel room later that morning.
Colbert is accused of using Manzano’s credit card at several stores in the New Orleans area, which led authorities to her arrest.
At this time, Colbert has only been booked for property crimes, according to police, which include fraud and theft-related offenses.
According to police, she has a criminal record that includes prior arrests related to being accused of drugging men, stealing cash, fraudulent use of credit and debit cards, and other financial-related crimes.
Manzano, a Mexico City native and Topeka, Kansas, resident earned his degree from Kansas State University. He joined the Chiefs TV crew at the beginning of the 2024 season as a sideline reporter.
WIBW reported last April that Manzano’s wife died in a crash in Topeka. She was an elementary school teacher. The couple leaves behind one child, a toddler.
Authorities did not release any further immediate information. The coroner’s office confirmed that an autopsy remains pending.
