Advocates say a lack of female officers on the force undermines public safety.

Nationwide, women make up only 12% of sworn police officers. However, a national movement is underway to increase those numbers with solutions.

It’s called the 30×30 Initiative. It launched in the spring of 2021 with the goal to have women represent 30% of police recruit classes by 2030.

The timeline might seem steep, but changes are already taking shape in departments across the country.
