The Duchess of Sussex will accompany her husband, the Duke of Sussex, to the Invictus Games in Canada this year.
Taking place in Vancouver, the seventh edition of the games, founded by Harry in 2014, will feature more than 500 competitors from 23 nations. This year marks a historic first, with winter sports being added to the competition.
Meghan‘s presence is believed to highlight her support for both her husband and the Invictus cause, a mission close to their hearts. Her focus during the event will be on uplifting the competitors and sharing their inspiring stories, as well as supporting Harry in his role.
The couple’s first public appearance together was at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto, where they were photographed hand-in-hand at a wheelchair tennis match.
In 2023, Meghan and Harry were spotted cheering on athletes from the crowd at the Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seen sitting side-by-side, clapping enthusiastically and reacting with palpable tension as they watched the wheelchair basketball match, especially as Australian supporters rallied behind their team.
While Meghan is understood to have several projects lined up, she continues to prioritise her family and is determined to stand by Harry in support of their shared causes.
Last August, the couple embarked on a four-day tour of Colombia, focusing on combating cyberbullying, digital violence, and advocating for women’s leadership. Earlier in 2024, they also travelled to Nigeria for a three-day visit at the invitation of the nation’s chief of defence staff, furthering their commitment to global issues.
Earlier this week, a group of British veterans and serving personnel set off for Canada to compete in the Invictus Games. The 62 competitors, all of whom have sustained life-changing injuries or illnesses during their service with the UK Armed Forces, departed from Birmingham Airport on Thursday.
The games, according to the Royal British Legion, aim to “inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who have served their country.”
Over the years, the Invictus Games have been hosted in various cities, including London in 2014, Orlando in 2016, Toronto in 2017, Sydney in 2018, The Hague in 2022, and Düsseldorf in 2023.
