The 1% Club host Lee Mack was quick to reprimand a contestant after they made a disparaging remark about their mother.

ITV’s popular gameshow returned on Saturday night, with a fresh batch of competitors vying for a prize of up to £100,000.

Just minutes into the latest episode, the host had to bid farewell to a contestant who disclosed her intention to use the prize money for cosmetic surgery.

Before revealing how much money was added to the prize pot, Lee asked her son, Michael, if he thought his mother would have lasted longer in the competition.

He responded: “To be honest I’m surprised she got that far.”

Despite the audience bursting into laughter, the host didn’t take the comment lightly and retorted, saying: “That’s a bit harsh. That’s your mother, have some respect.”

Christine’s final round saw the prize hike up to £31,000. The competitors were asked to solve a puzzle with a question that read: “Amlan is very particular about how he lays out his apps on his home screen, which of these completes Amlan’s layout?”

The apps were organised to reference the well-known idiom ‘No point crying over spilt milk.’ However, over a dozen players did not work it out.

Despite the TV stars missing the mark, viewers of the ITV show were quick to share on social media that they had figured out the answer.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, one person said: “How are people not realising it’s “Don’t cry over spilt milk.” #The1PercentClub.” (sic)

While a second celebrated that they had remained in the game, saying: “I’m still in #The1PercentClub, so I’m going to celebrate with a miniature bottle of fruity wine.” (sic)

And a third simply exclaimed: “Yesssssss still in #The1PercentClub.” (sic)

The 1% Club continues every Saturday at 8.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
