An Ayrshire mental health charity is hosting a drop-in event which will be “a safe place for people struggling”.

Unity Connections, founded by Lee Borthwick of Drongan, are hosting the event at the Boswell Centre in Auchinleck on Wednesday, February 12.

The charity will be on site from 9.30am to 2pm for people struggling with mental health or addiction.

Anyone is welcome to visit including people who are not struggling but might be able to offer a helping hand to those who are.

Unity Connections – a charity which primarily support adults affected by mental health and addictions across Ayrshire – recently celebrated becoming a registered charity in Scotland.

On Friday, February 14, they are also set to host their first event as a registered charity with the star-studded Swipe Right 4 Laughs comedy gig.

Lee, a recovering cocaine addict, set up Unity Connections last year to support “people who just can’t deal with life on life’s terms”.

Ahead of Wednesday’s drop in, Lee said: “We are excited to announce that we are going to be based at the Boswell Centre, Auchinleck.

“We are a charity that deals with pretty much all aspects of our mind’s struggles including addiction issues, families affected by addiction, mental health struggles and struggling with life in general.

“Even if you’re not struggling, come along and offer a hand to those who are.

“We have big plans for the year ahead so come along and grab a chat and put a face to my name. I’ve overcome a 16-year cocaine addiction, been suicidal, homeless, and had mental health struggles so I hope my experience can help others to see there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

“This will be a safe place for people struggling.”
