Netflix viewers have been left amazed by a new documentary into the OJ Simpson trial and the evidence that never made it to the controversial court case. NFL legend Simpson was found not guilty of the murder of his ex-wife ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman, after a three-month trial in 1995.

However, a new four-part Netflix documentary ‘American Manhunt: OJ Simpson’ has taken a fresh and detailed look at the case, and left some fans gobsmacked at some of the evidence that was never revealed at the time. Coming out almost a year after Simpson’s death in April 2024, the show highlights witnsses who never made it to the stand .

With testimonies having such a key impact on the jury’s eventual decision, the documentary reveals several were never given the opportunity to speak in court. The show looks at Jill Shively, a woman who was driving home when she claims to have seen Simpson driving away from his wife’s neighbourhood – placing him near the scene of the crime.

Shively was never called to testify as prosecutors thought she lacked credibility as she had sold her story to the media. Another witness not called to the stand was Skip Junis, who claims he saw Simpson acting strangely at LAX airport soon after the murders.

Also highlighted by the series is the forensic evidence from around the crime scene and how poorly it was logged and managed by police. The documentary includes photos of door knobs and light switches that were never analysed, while wet laundry also found at Simpson’s house could have included some DNA evidence that may have swayed the jury.

Prosecutors relied heavily on the DNA evidence at the time and the defence argued it was contaminated from police mishandling, but any new or extra evidence collected at the beginning could have provided a more rigorous argument.

One watcher posted on Threads: “The new O.J. The Simpson doc on Netflix is really good! The amount of evidence that didn’t make it to court is wild!”

Louise C said on X: “Watching American Manhunt: OJ Simpson on Netflix. How anyone could think he was not guilty still blows my mind. It just shows that a combination of incompetent police who didn’t collect the evidence properly and hot defence lawyers, you can literally get away with murder”

Genta l3lakaj added: “Started watching American Manhunt doc for OJ Simpson and in just 30min of the first episode I have never ever seen more proofs for someone to be guilty in a crime scene.”

Bobbi Typo said: “We all knew he was guilty but the amount of damning evidence I’d never heard of and was never entered into evidence is mindblowing. Am I the only one that missed the other glove being outside Kato’s wall or was that brand new?”

Monica: added: “Started watching the Netflix series American Manhunt: OJ Simpson about the 1994 murders. HOLY MOLY the LAPD effed up so badly. His blood at the scene. Her blood on his socks. So much blood evidence. So much other evidence not collected. Witnesses not interviewed. Staggering.”
